The late and ever-memorable Bishop Constantine (Jessensky) was the Bishop of Richmond and Great Britain from 1981 until 1986. When he retired, Bishop Constantine went to live in a monastery in Blanco, Texas, USA and that is where, at the age of 89, he reposed in the Lord and where his mortal remains were buried. Since that time, the monastery has been disbanded, and now the remains of Bishop Constantine lie all alone in the Texan desert.
The Fathers of Holy Trinity Monastery, Jordanville, New York, USA are undertaking to transport the honourable remains from Texas to the Jordanville Lavra of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad where many archpastors rest. However, the monks of Jordanville need to raise £6,500 to fulfil this plan. Therefore, with the blessing of the First Hierarch, Metropolitan Hilarion, Holy Trinity Monastery, Jordanville is appealing for donations from all who hold dear the memory of Bishop Constantine, who served the Russian Orthodox Church in Europe, in Australia and in the USA.
His Eminence, Archbishop Mark of Berlin, Germany, and Great Britain, in 1986 succeeded Bishop Constantine as ruling hierarch of the UK Archdiocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad. Vladyka Mark has blessed our Cathedral parish to raise funds in the UK for this purpose. All donations should be given to the Honorary Treasurer, Oxana Rudenko, who will send the donations to Jordanville. There will be plate collections at Sunday Liturgy.
