In memory of Archpriest Eugene Smirnoff

Mitred Archpriest Eugene Smirnoff was the last chaplain of the Russian Imperial Embassy in London, and first priest of the London parish of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia. He died on 4 January, 1923, at the age of 77, and was buried in Kensal Green Cemetery, London W10. Fr Eugene had been priest at the Embassy Church in Welbeck Street, London for a remarkable 46 years.

On 4 January, 2016, the anniversary of the repose of Fr Eugene, Archpriest Vladimir Vilgerts and Subdeacon Nicolas Mabin visited Kensal Green cemetery and served a panikhida for the repose of the soul of Fr Eugene and also for Fr Eugene’s wife, Zinaida, and their younger son, Alexander, who are buried in the same place.
