Childrens Festival “Light the Christmas Star”
The Parish School of the Cathedral of the Holy Dormition, Russian Orthodox Church outside of Russia, is organizing a Christmas celebration for children. We invite the children of our parish, as well as everyone interested, to Chiswick Town Hall on Sunday, January 12, 2014
In preparation for the Festival, competitions will be held: writing, drawing, and recitations of poems about Christmas. The competitions are open to children of all ages.
Christmas Poetry Recitation Competition
There will be a Christmas Poetry Recitation competition between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, 4 January, 2014 in the Church Hall, next to the Cathedral. The best performers will then take part in the Concert on 12th January, 2014.
Essay competition on the theme “Ringing of Christmas bells on the wonderful frosty and sunny day.”
Children’s essays, poems, illustrating the child’s attitude to the chosen theme. You can illustrate the written work with drawings and photographs. Essay or poem to be not more than 100 words.
Drawing Competition on the theme of ‘The Christmas Miracle”
Focussing on the Bible stories, this will demonstrate the child’s creativity and perception of the Christmas story.
Drawing competition on the theme of ‘The snow covering the countryside;
Images of the beauty of nature in winter through the eyes of a child; the communication of feelings through art.
The drawings can be created in any medium. Format: A4, A3, A2. (Please write on the back of the work information about the child: first name, last name, age, education, place of residence.)
Submissions for the essay and drawing competitions must be made no later than 29th December, 2013. The results will be announced at the Festival on 12th January, 2014.

The final part of the Festival will be the Christmas Tree ceremony, which will be held at Chiswick Town Hall, Heathfield Terrace, Chiswick, London, W4 4JN

The programme of the festival:
1.30 – 2.00 meeting of visitors and spectators; making craft projects.
2.00 – 2.10 greeting the priest
2.10 – 2.45 Christmas tale: ‘Nasten′kina’s Christmas tree’
2.45 – 3.15 Buffet
3.15 – 4.45 Concert, Dances, Games, Contests
4.45 – 5 p.m. Prize giving for competition winners; Christmas presents for children with a gift voucher
Elegant clothes for the Christmas holiday. (Please do not dress your children in costumes and face masks.)
