Archbishop Mark gives up the responsibility for the Diocese of Gt Britain and Ireland

At the meeting of the Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church held on 8th December, it was decided that Archbishop Mark would relinquish the responsibility for the Diocese of Gt Britain and Ireland, with immediate effect, but he will still remain responsible for Germany and for overseeing the Holy Land Convents and properties.

The Diocese of Gt Britain and Ireland will now come under the responsibility of Metropolitan Hilarion, the first Hierarch of our Church.

Vladika Mark has been our bishop for 30 years and we are deeply grateful to him for his guidance and governance of our parish which has seen many changes with moving from the old Cathedral at Emperors Gate, South Kensington, through St Dunstan’s Road in Barons Court to finally at Harvard Road W4. He has seen us through the rapprochement of Church with the Moscow Patriarchate which culminated in a visit of His Holiness Patriarch Kyrill of Moscow and All Russia in October

Perhaps his visible and lasting legacy will be the Cathedral in Harvard Road which is presently being frescoed in preparation for its consecration in September, the first purpose built Russian Orthodox Church since the building of the chapel in Welbeck Street London in the 19th Century. Please remember Vladika in your prayers and also our Metropolitan.
